Hobby Horsing is a trendy sport in which the hobby horse becomes a sports partner. The handle of the Hobby Horse is much shorter than that of the classic stick horse, so that Hobby Horsing enthusiasts can run and jump with their horse. In addition, the Hobby Horse's head is usually very realistically designed. The coat colours and white markings on the head are based on real horses and the Hobby Horse is equipped with the accessories that are also used in real equestrian sports.
The athletes, who often also train on live horses and ponies or at least have a connection to equestrian sports, walk like horses while their hand position corresponds to that of a rider. In this way, they run through entire dressage exercises in all gaits and even complete entire jumping courses on a classical dressage arena, where real horses normally train with their riders. Mostly children are enthusiastic about the sport of hobby horsing, but there are also adults who have discovered hobby horsing for themselves. People who practice hobby horsing are also called Hobby Horser.
Admittedly, it takes a little imagination to seriously partake in the sport, which originated in Finland. But there is one thing that is certainly not neglected in the sport: exercise! And that alone is a strong argument for the sport in times when more and more children and youths suffer from the consequences of lack of exercise.
